The reconstruction of the arena at VDNH in Moscow is a small part of a large project. The main goal was to restore the former beauty of VDNH territory, which has gradually faded since the construction. From architectural point of view, task was a rather non-trivial. The idea was in integrating the modern and technological architecture into the historical context.
HAVE YOU FOUND THE CAT? :)
VDNKH is a really unique place. It was founded as for reviewing of the national economy's achievements like the modern EXPO. Its key feature is in concentration of the republics' the former USSR achievements and their traditions in the city bounders. The diversity of traditions is clearly visible in the architecture and the surrounding space. You can feel that you have traveled through all over the Russian and the CIS cities in a very short time while walking around VDNH.
An old arena was an open space with destroyed sculptural elements on its territory. At the same time there was a special charm in a leaning fence, which separated a place for horse riding.
APM Prospekt decided to develop indoor complex, convenient for all-season riding. In order to preserve the feeling of an open space, there was decided to apply a solid facade glazing, which reflects very painterly in the pond.
ARCHITECTURE LIKE A SOURCE OF INSPIRATION
We really like the facade's contour of building. It's a pleasure to visualize a light and aesthetic architecture. In our opinion, the combination of a simple white color with warm wood and glass is a win-win option to create a good look in any atmosphere and time of the year.
PRODUCTION
Despite the scope of the task, the project took only about three weeks to complete. The most of the time was spent by modeling the surrounding environment. We have noticed that more interesting architecture is easier in project flow. The architecture itself suggests what atmosphere it will look more attractively in.
